Helen was born in Glasgow in 1954 and was the second child of Alice and Hugh. Her elder sister was Anne and there was Her brother Billy who sadly died in an accident 30 years ago and Hugh the youngest. For those who remember the Addams Family on TV she once on Halloween dressed up as Uncle Fester as she had a coat similar to his outfit She went to Adelphi Secondary School and was the Head girl there She took part in the Robert Burns Poem Recital with The De’il’s awa wi the excise man. It is well remembered by her sister that she would just do at a drop of a hat to annoy while her family told her to get lost as they were sick of hearing it. Joined the Senior Service in 1972 Married Ray in 1974, has two children Andrew (b1979) & Iain (B1982) Lived in Portugal after marrying and always remembered her brother Billy visiting as he couldn’t bear the sun and had to spend his time on the beach covered in towels. After this a lot of time was spent in Scotland, near her family and her proud Scottish roots, she unfortunately had to follow Ray to England where she remained ever since. However she never lost her accent and when talking to her sister couldn’t be understood by anyone else in the house. However when speaking to the English she sounded more like Hyacinth Bouquet. She loved going on holidays, travelling to New York within a few weeks of 9/11 because it was paid for, she and Andrew enjoyed having the plane to themselves. She enjoyed meeting and helping people, initially with SSAFA, before becoming a fully fledged Army Welfare Worker where she continued to try and help others. To celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary she visited Australia and conquered her fears by climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and visiting Alice Springs because of her love of the Flying Doctor series. She studied for a degree with the Open University and was immensely proud when she received her Bsc at Ely Cathedral earlier this year, even more so when her grandson, William ran down the aisle shouting Grannie when she received her award. A fantastic Wife, Mother and friend to many, she will be sadly missed.
